About Us

Formed in 1985 by a group of enthusiastic like-minded walkers, the aim to explore the beautiful Scottish hills and bag many Munros. (hills over 3000ft).

We are a mixed ability group based in Renfrewshire and although we have a lot of fun, we take the mountains seriously. Many of our members have completed all 282 Munro’s, many are still bagging and many just enjoy a strenuous and rewarding day on the Scottish hills.

The Club is affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland and this gives all club members access to shop discounts at various outdoor suppliers like Go Outdoors and Blacks (typically 10%) and other benefits.  We are also a club member of Hostelling Scotland so members get a discount not only on club stays but also separate stays that they book themselves.

Activities

Each month there is a planned walk or a weekend away to climb the beautiful Scottish hills. There are often additional walks arranged by members in more isolated locations using bothies or camping or holidays abroad for those interested and availability.

Many of our members are also involved in biking, running and kayaking.

For planned walks for the coming year check out our Upcoming Adventures.

Monthly Sunday Outings

Each month there is a nominated mountain area to explore (see our diary), this is used as a basis for our intended walks but can change due to weather conditions. There is a meeting in The Houston Inn, North Street, Houston, Renfrewshire, at 8 pm on the Monday preceding the walk. This is to discuss routes, car-sharing arrangements, meet new members and catch up with other members. We would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone wishing to join us.

Often there are several walking options, it is rare for a single large group walking/climbing together as this is impractical, we usually have a small groups of no more than six.

We welcome all abilities of walkers but should stress a good level of fitness is required to climb hills. We encourage walkers to become confident in mountain skills and map reading. For details of the basic mountaineering kit see Walking Gear.

Weekends Away

Each year we have several weekends planned, this enables us to visit parts of Scotland too far away for a days outing. It also gives us a chance to tackle bigger longer days walking and have a sociable time together. Generally our accommodation is in Scottish Hostels or reasonable priced small Hotels. Weather permitting we can usually get two or three days of consecutive walking and lots of Munro bagging! See our diary for details.

We also have an overnight stay to celebrate Christmas, as the days are short for walking in December, a hotel with Christmas dinner, bed and breakfast are usually booked and a good time is had by all!
